Our most recent trip was March 22-27, 2024. We met our goal with 51 joint replacements in 4 days! The group that went on this mission was fantastic. Everyone worked together extremely well. We had numerous first-timers on this trip, including surgeons, nurses, and surgical technicians, all of whom did a tremendous job. Our non-medical volunteers this trip were an exceptional group, and helped with many tasks, including supplies, washing and sterilization of instruments, patient transportation, and translating. Once again we had Orthopedic surgeons in training (Fellows) join the trip, all of whom did a great job and were a joy to work with. We are looking forward to having them all come back on another trip in the future as fully trained joint replacement specialists.
The trip was not without its challenges, as we had issues with our supply shipment and with hotel rooms at the start, but it all got worked out, and no one complained! Every trip we learn something new that helps our planning for next year.
Special thanks to the amazing staff at Hospital Nacional San Rafael, in Santa Tecla, El Salvador who allow us to come in and do this amazing work in their facility every year. Also we would like to recognize and thank the Sheraton Presidente San Salvador, who host our large group every year. Their hospitality and customer service are fantastic. We are already looking forward to being back in April 2025!
