We had a unique but successful trip April 11 – 16, 2025. We unexpectedly found out in February before we left that Hospital National San Rafael was undergoing major remodels and upgrades to their operating rooms. What this meant for us was that we could only utilize two operating rooms instead of the normal three. No worries! We pivoted, realigned our surgical teams, and did the best with what we had. This meant doing an extra case in each room every day, but our team pulled together and no one complained. Ultimately we were able to do 41 joint replacements in just 3 1/2 days. Forever changing and positively impacting this many lives left the entire team with a deep sense of accomplishment.
This year also saw several people step up into new roles, and everyone was up to the task. We are extremely grateful for all the hard work of the entire team. While we are always looking for new team members to join the mission, we have a core group of people who have gone for several years now and bring invaluable experience. It’s amazing to watch these dedicated healthcare professionals do their work in a foreign and sometimes challenging environment. We can’t thank you enough!
